Keeping it Cool!
With the mercury rising, you can bank on these food items to stay hydrated and keep the heat at bay!

Ditch tea, coffee and carbonated drinks this season! Instead, switch to healthy beverages such as a glass of chilled kokum sharbat or juice extracted from the kokum fruit. Else, try chaas (buttermilk) mixed with salt, black salt and mint flakes, or aam panna, a cooling drink made from unripe green tart mangoes, flavoured with roasted cumin.
A lesser known summer food is khus khus. These can be used to make a cooling drink that is also known to help with all sorts of inflammation. Khus khus is a good source of magnesium, which aids cellular functions in the body.
Include fruits and green vegetables like papaya, spinach, cucumber, jackfruit, yam and others to beat the heat during summers. Experts recommend avoiding excess fried food as it may shoot up your body temperature. You can also opt for watermelon, tomatoes and litchi, which have high water content.
The season of our favourite summer fruit, mango, is here! While shakes and cheesecakes are popular, try a refreshing mango salsa recipe with chips or nachos for getting that summer kick! Grab some ripe mangoes, red bell pepper, red onion, cilantro/coriander and chillies. Dice everything finely and mix them up with a pinch of salt and a spoon of lemon juice.
Sattu (roasted gram flour) is a summer superfood that can keep you energetic and prevent heatstroke! It adds roughage and pulls in water for easy digestion. It is also known to curb flatulence, constipation and acidity. To quench your thirst, try an icy drink by whisking sattu and sugar/jaggery in cold water.
